The medieval arabic chronicles document a fortification in the septentrional frontier of Al-Andalus called Agira, now Àger, in the region of la Noguera. The archaeological data point out that it is a mjlitary settlement probably of the IX century. Moreover, the existence of a place-name similar to Magreb makes you think of the establishment in this area of a berber tribal fraction called Banû Agàr during the period of the islamic domination of the Iberian peninsula. |
