Abstract: Children often appear in cinema which does not necessarily address them. In this volume 46 Anglophone films are analysed to consider how children are represented in live-action films. The conclusion is that while they are often the centre of attention, their needs and point of view are always subordinated to those of the adults in the films, hence our calling them 'beautiful vessels'. As regards gender, the book demonstrates that its representation in association with childhood tends to be conservative, though girls are being progressively given more attention.
Note: The e-book is the result of the work carried out by the students enrolled in the elective course 'Gender Studies' of the MA in Advanced English Studies of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, during the Winter-Spring semester of the academic year 2023-24. Their focus has been studying the representation of children (ages 4 to 12) in a selection of 21st century Anglophone films.
