Resum:	al-Waqā'i' al-Miṣriyya es un periódico considerado como el antecedente de la prensa árabe en general y la egipcio-otomana en particular. Comenzó su publicación en turco-otomano y en árabe. Esta versión bilingüe se presentaba en los folletos de dicha gaceta en forma de dos columnas: una principal en el primer idioma a la derecha, y otra secundaria en el segundo a la izquierda. A medida que fue pasando el tiempo, esta posición privilegiada variaría según las circunstancias políticas que enfrentó el Egipto otomano durante el gobierno de la dinastía de M. 'Alī. Dentro de este marco, se analizan los factores que contribuyeron al surgimiento de este bilingüismo, destacando el papel que desempeñó la traducción en él. Asimismo, se presta especial atención al contexto periodístico de la época para averiguar cómo al-Waqā'i' al-Miṣriyya logró moldear su propia trayectoria periodística, por un lado, y responder a las demandas de la prensa oficial, por el otro. Como resultado de la investigación, se reafirmará que la relación de interdependencia entre la prensa y la traducción aceleró y afianzó el proyecto periodístico que se estaba gestando en el Egipto otomano decimonónico.
Resum:	The newspaper al-Waqā'i' al-Miṣriyya is considered the forerunner of the Arab press in general and of the Egyptian-Ottoman press in particular. It was originally printed in Ottoman Turkish and in Arabic, in two columns: the main one on the right in Turkish, and the secondary one on the left in Arabic. As time went by, the position of the two would change in line with the political situation of Ottoman Egypt under the rule of the dynasty of M. 'Alī. In this framework, the aim is to analyze the factors that contributed to the emergence of this bilingualism, emphasizing the role played by translation. Special attention is paid to the journalistic context of the time to determine how al-Waqā'i' al-Miṣriyya managed to shape its own journalistic career on the one hand, and respond to the demands of the official press on the other. As a result of the study, it will be reaffirmed that the interdependence between the press and translation accelerated and strengthened the Arab journalistic projectthat was becoming established in the Ottoman Egypt of the nineteenthcentury.
