Resum:	Rates of adoption breakdown have often been underestimated in international adoption. While several relevant studies have been published in Spain, there is no research addressing this issue in the autonomous community of Catalonia, which has been one of the main centers of international adoption in Spain since the 1990s. Our research provides specific data on this phenomenon and identifies the significant and critical variables contributing to adoption breakdown, by analyzing all the case files on failed adoption between 1998 and 2014: 1883 documents, corresponding to a total of 74 children and 62 families.
