Performance practice in the 18th century at Santa Maria del Pi's music chapel choir in Barcelona

Resum:	Spanish ecclesiastical music chapels remained extensive and professionalized until the early 19th century. In 18th century Barcelona, Santa Maria del Pi held the third most prestig-ious chapel in the city, with a fixed choir of four adult male voices and four boy trebles, oc-casionally supplemented by external singers for solemn events. This article examines the structural features, changes, and peculiarities of this vocal ensemble throughout the 18th century, drawing on extensive archival documentation. Addi-tionally, it analyses the preserved musical repertoire to explore how the chapel utilized its vocal resources based on the works performed. The analysis demonstrates that polyphonic music at Santa Maria del Pi was typically performed with one voice per part, with occasional doubling of soprano lines sung by choirboys.
