Resum:	My contribution will explore the possibility to apply some of the notions that Voegelin developed around the idea of race and beyond it, the medieval doctrine of corpus mysticum, to some Catalan writers at the turn of 19th century. The notion of a Catalan race constitutes a common topic in the studies on Catalan political thought of early 20th century. It is usually related to scientific, medical, and eugenic developments, therefore, claiming the positivist origins that are also common in France, Italy, and many other European countries. However, a closer analysis of Catholic philosophy and theology of the 19th century reveals much earlier origins. There are no simple linear correlations in the communication and ex-pansion of ideas. As Erik Voegelin suggested, symbolic chains can be expanded in many directions. In this case, Medieval Scholastic theology on the mystical political body of Christ, church and community was fleshed out to generate the differential notion of Catalan race in Catalan 19th c. political thought. The article closes with the examination of the concept of liminal identity to shed light on its emergence and use.
Resum:	In meinem Beitrag werde ich die Möglichkeit untersuchen, einige der Vorstellungen, die Voegelin rund um die Idee der Rasse und darüber hinaus entwickelt hat, die mittelalterliche Doktrin des Corpus mysti-cum, auf einige katalanische Schriftsteller um die Wende des 19. Jahrhunderts anzuwenden. Die Vorstellung einer katalanischen Rasse ist ein häufiges Thema in den Studien zum katalanischen politischen Denken des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts. Es steht in der Regel im usammenhang mit wissenschaftlichen, medizinischen und eugenischen Entwicklungen und nimmt daher die positivistischen Ursprünge in Anspruch, die auch in Frankreich, Italien und vielen anderen europäischen Ländern verbreitet sind. Eine genauere Analyse der katholischen Philosophie und Theologie des 19. Jahrhunderts offenbart jedoch viel frühere Ursprünge. Es gibt keine einfachen linearen Zusammenhänge in der Kommunikation und Erweiterung von Ideen. Wie Erik Voegelin vorschlug, können symbolische Ketten in viele Richtungen erweitert werden. In diesem Fall wurde die mittelalterliche scholastische Theologie über den mystischen politischen Körper Christi, der Kirche und der Gemeinschaft konkretisiert, um die differenzierte Vorstellung der katalanischen Rasse im Katalanischen des 19.
