The emergence of the podcast musical as a new audio format presents challenges for translation. Thus far, no Catalan translation of this genre currently exists, nor have translation studies addressed it as a distinct field of study. This paper investigates how two songs from 36 Questions: The Podcast Musical can be effectively translated into Catalan while preserving their narrative function, singability, and emotional impact. The central argument is that the podcast musical requires a translation approach that prioritizes singability and cultural mediation over semantic fidelity, given the absence of visual support. To test this, two songs from the musical will be translated, applying different song translation strategies. The analysis shows that techniques such as metric adaptation, stress pattern adjustment, and reformulation are essential to achieve an effective translation between Catalan lyrics and the original melody. The results serve as a practical reference for future Catalan translations of podcast musicals and support the recognition of this format as a future field of translation research. |
