Resum: A detour is offered within Chapter 4, as Adolfo Nieto, Emilio Fernández-Peña, and Iliana Ferrer focus on the three personal brands of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and LeBron James, who collectively boast 1. 8 billion followers on social media. Showing how these athletes utilize social media to advance and shape their personal brands reveals how much social media is not an egalitarian system of distribution. A post by an everyday professional soccer player will be significantly less impactful than even the most meager content delivery by a star athlete. The chapter exhibits how social media in global sport enables everyone to have a megaphone, but that the size of that megaphone differs greatly depending on one's achievements on the field/court of play.
