En el camp dels estudis de la traducció és comuna la distinció entre el codi lingüístic- el text- i els elements culturals que apareixen en el text. El problema, doncs, ha estat fonamentalment trobar la forma lingüística més adequada -manlleus, calcs, amplificacions- de transferir aquests elements perquè el lector comprengui el text en tota la seva dimensió. Consegüentment, ha calgut catalogar de manera inequívoca tots aquests elements en funció de diferents categories. Tanmateix, ningú mai no s'ha plantejat el perquè d'aquesta distinció, ni tampoc si és precisa científicament, ni les conseqüències que se'n deriven. La investigació duta a terme, basada en un enfocament teòric, la traducció com a punt de partida, que intenta anar més enllà de les teories de la traducció habitualment acceptades, se centra en la novel·la escrita per Qian Zhongshu, 'Weicheng' 《围城》, i les seves traduccions al castellà i a l'anglès. Els objectius de la investigació son, en primer lloc, qüestionar la distinció tradicional esmentada anteriorment y, en segon lloc, aportar nous instruments d'anàlisi per a concebre la traducció en tota la seva magnitud. Per assolir aquests objectius s'ha limitat l'objecte d'anàlisi a una sèrie d'elements procedents de coneixements i tradicions literàries de l'entorn cultural euroamericà que l'autor introdueix sistemàticament a la novel·la amb una intenció determinada. Així, de l'anàlisi d'aquests elements, anomenats 'elements interculturals', l'exemple més significatiu dels quals és, sens dubte, el concepte que dóna títol a la novel·la, 'weicheng', s'obtenen una sèrie de resultats que permeten concebre la traducció no com un mer instrument de commutació lingüística, ni com un simple mitjà per a adquirir coneixements sobre una cultura determinada, sinó com una eina complexa i potent de globalització literària i intercultural. |

In the field of translation studies a distinction is commonly made between the linguistic code - the text - and the cultural elements that appear in that text. The problem has therefore been to find the most appropriate form of language - loanwords, calques, expansion - to transfer these elements so that that the reader can fully understand the text. Consequently, a need has arisen to classify the elements into clearly defined categories. However, nobody has ever questioned why such a distinction must be made, or even if it is necessary from an academic point of view, or the consequences that it may have. This research, based on a theoretical focus (translation as a starting point) that aims to go beyond the commonly accepted translation theories, is centred on the novel by Qian Zhongshu, 'Weicheng' 《围城》 and its translations into Spanish and English. The aims of the research are, firstly, to question the distinction described above and secondly, to propose new instruments of analysis for conceptualising translation in all its magnitude. To achieve these objectives the object of study is limited to a series of elements from the literary knowledge and traditions of the Euro-American cultural environment which are introduced systematically and intentionally into the novel. An analysis of these elements, referred to as 'intercultural elements', the most significant example of which is undoubtedly the title itself 'Weicheng', offers a series of results that allow translation to be conceived of not just as an instrument for the commutation of languages, or a simple means of acquiring knowledge of a specific culture, but rather as a complex and powerful tool for literary and intercultural globalisation. |
