Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals) ; Kallis, Giorgos (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals)
Under what circumstances are interest-bearing loans compatible with an economy without much growth? The question is becoming increasingly important given a tendency towards declining growth in industrialised economies and increasing evidence that continued growth is incompatible with environmental sustainability. [...]

Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals) ; Zografos, Christos (Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Departament de Ciències Polítiques i Socials)
Why do people who care about the environment adopt behaviours that are not consistent with their beliefs? Previous studies approach this as a case of cognitive dissonance, researchers looking into the strategies through which people reduce gaps between their attitudes and their behaviours. [...]

Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals) ; Kallis, Giorgos (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals) ; Bakker, Karen (University of British Columbia)
The term 'décroissance' (degrowth) signifies a process of political and social transformation that reduces a society's material and energy use while improving the quality of life. Degrowth calls for decolonizing imaginaries and institutions from - in Ursula Le Guin's words - 'a one-way future consisting only of growth'. [...]

A study by researchers at the ICTA-UAB analyses the reasons why environmentally-minded scientists find it difficult to give up meat consumption, one of the world's greatest environmental problems. Scientists do not believe in individual actions and prefer to rely on politics and technology.

The notion of green growth has emerged as a dominant policy response to climate change and ecological breakdown. Green growth theory asserts that continued economic expansion is compatible with our planet's ecology, as technological change and substitution will allow us to absolutely decouple GDP growth from resource use and carbon emissions.
