The Paris Agreement is based on emission scenarios that move from a sluggish phase-out of fossil fuels to large-scale late-century negative emissions. Alternative pathways of early deployment of negative emission technologies need to be considered to ensure that climate targets are reached safely and sustainably.

A zero balance between the emissions and capture by the earth sinks of CO² with a maximum rise of Temperature of 1. 5 ⁰C with respect to the pre-industrial period was established by Paris COP21 as the global objective by the end of this century. [...]

Concentrations of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) have continued to increase whereas atmospheric deposition of sulphur and nitrogen has declined in Europe and the USA during recent decades. Using time series of flux observations from 23 forests distributed throughout Europe and the USA, and generalised mixed models, we found that forest-level net ecosystem production and gross primary production have increased by 1% annually from 1995 to 2011. 11 p, 1.4 MB Assessing the land resource-food price nexus of the Sustainable Development Goals / Obersteiner, Michael (International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (Àustria))
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) call for a comprehensive new approach to development rooted in planetary boundaries, equity, and inclusivity. The wide scope of the SDGs will necessitate unprecedented integration of siloed policy portfolios to work at international, regional, and national levels toward multiple goals and mitigate the conflicts that arise from competing resource demands.
