Instituto de Ciências Sociais) ; López Colás, Julián (Centre d'Estudis Demogràfics) ; Módenes Cabrerizo, Juan Antonio (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Geografia)
The increase of the proportion of rental-occupied dwellings between 2001 and 2011 is one of the most outstanding results of the 2011 Spanish census. This study aims to explain this increase in tenancy, unveiling the sociodemographic factors behind this pattern at the individual level, and at the regional level clarifying the role of market dynamics in this change. El análisis de la sostenibilidad medioambiental y social de la movilidad cotidiana por trabajo es una línea de investigación cada vez más relevante. 43 p, 954.1 KB A century of change in global education variability and gender differences in education / Permanyer, Iñaki ; Boertien, Diederik
This article shows how overall education variability can be decomposed in four clearly interpretable components (variability among women and men, educational advantage favoring women and favoring men) and documents how these components have evolved over time in the world and its regions from 1950 to 2010 (with projections until 2040). 43 p, 954.1 KB Global trends in lifespan inequality : 1950-2015 / Permanyer, Iñaki ; Scholl, Nathalie
Using data from the UN World Population Prospects, we document global trends in lifespan inequality from 1950 until 2015. Our findings indicate that (i) there has been a sustained decline in overall lifespan inequality, (ii) adult lifespan variability has also declined, but some plateaus and trend reversals have been identified, (iii) lifespan inequality among the elderly has increased virtually everywhere, (iv) most of the world variability in age-at-death can be attributed within-country variability. 33 p, 201.8 KB The Reversal of the Gender Gap in Education and its Consequences for Family Life / Van Babel, Jan ; Schwartz, Christine ; Esteve Palós, Albert
While men tended to receive more education than women in the past, the gender gap in education has reversed in recent decades in most Western and many non-Western countries. We review the literature about the implications for union formation, assortative mating, the division of paid and unpaid work, and union stability in Western countries. [...]

Longevity and lifespan variation by educational attainment in Spain : 1960-2015 / Permanyer, Iñaki ; Spijker, Jeroen ; Blanes, Amand ; Rentería, Elisenda
For a long time, studies of socioeconomic gradients in health have limited their attention to between-group comparisons. Yet, ignoring the differences that might exist within groups and focusing on group-specific life expectancy levels and trends alone, one might arrive at overly simplistic conclusions. [...]

Migrations have a close relationship with economy. In this text, we will focus on the economic consequences of migration, less addressed by the specialized literature. Postindustrial fertility ideals, intentions, and gender inequality : a comparative qualitative analysis / Brinton, Mary C. ; Bueno García, Xiana ; Oláh, Livia ; Hellum, Merete
Fertility ideals remain centered on two children in most postindustrial societies, presenting a puzzle for demographers interested in very low fertility. This paper explores the conditions producing a gap between fertility ideals and intentions among young highly-educated adults in different postindustrial contexts. [...]

One of the outcomes of the Great Recession has been the emerging pattern of households maintained exclusively by women. The analysis of intra-couple characteristics is crucial in the context of job segregation by gender and by immigrant origin, such as in Spain. [...]
