Department für Wald- und Bodenwissenschaften)
Elemental stoichiometry constitutes an inherent link between biogeochemistry and the structure and processes within food webs, and thus is at the core of ecosystem functioning. Stoichiometry allows for spanning different levels of biological organization, from cellular metabolism to ecosystem structure and nutrient cycling, and is therefore particularly useful for establishing links between different ecosystem compartments. 15 p, 1.4 MB Environmental factors prevail over dispersal constraints indetermining the distribution and assembly of Trichopteraspecies in mountain lakes / Mendoza, Guillermo de (Centre d'Estudis Avançats de Blanes) ; Ventura, Marc (Centre d'Estudis Avançats de Blanes) ; Catalan, Jordi (Centre de Recerca Ecològica i Aplicacions Forestals)
Aiming to elucidate whether large-scale dispersal factors or environmental species sorting prevail in determining patterns of Trichoptera species composition in mountain lakes, we analyzed the distribution and assembly of the most common Trichoptera (Plectrocnemia laetabilis, Polycentropus flavomaculatus, Drusus rectus, Annitella pyrenaea, and Mystacides azurea) in the mountain lakes of the Pyrenees (Spain, France, Andorra) based on a survey of 82 lakes covering the geographical and environmental extremes of the lake district. 18 p, 222.9 KB Measuring in action research : four ways of integrating quantitative methods in participatory dynamics / Martí Olivé, Joel (Centre d'Estudis Sociològics sobre la Vida Quotidiana i el Treball)
Although action research uses both qualitative and quantitative methods, few contributions have addressed the specific role of the latter in this kind of research. This paper focuses on how quantitative methods can be integrated with participatory dynamics in action research designs. [...]

19 p, 335.8 KB Just a question of time? The composition and evolution of immigrants’ personal networks in Catalonia / Bolíbar, Mireia (Centre d'Estudis Sociològics sobre la Vida Quotidiana i el Treball) ; Martí Olivé, Joel (Centre d'Estudis Sociològics sobre la Vida Quotidiana i el Treball) ; Verd Pericàs, Joan Miquel (Centre d'Estudis Sociològics sobre la Vida Quotidiana i el Treball)
This article analyses the composition and evolution of migrants’ personal networks during their settlement process. Migration studies have emphasized the relational dimension of the migration process, but the topic has rarely been analysed systematically using social network analysis. [...]

Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals) ; Calvo-Boyero, Diana (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals) ; Reyes García, Victòria (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals)
In an era of anthropogenic stress on ecological systems at multiple scales, involving rural people in planning for adaptation to social-ecological changes is crucial to strengthen local efforts in dealing with uncertainty. [...]
