Resonance of isochronous oscillators / Rojas, David (Universitat Rovira I Virgili. Departament D'Enginyeria Informàtica I Matemàtiques)
An oscillator such that all motions have the same minimal period is called isochronous. When the isochronous is forced by a time-dependent perturbation with the same natural frequency as the oscillator the phenomenon of resonance can appear. [...]

Difference Equations Everywhere : Some Motivating Examples / Gasull i Embid, Armengol (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Matemàtiques)
This work collects several situations where discrete dynamical systems or difference equations appear. Most of them are different from the examples used in textbooks and from the usual mathematical models appearing in Biology or Economy. [...]

4 p, 235.4 KB Localizing limit cycles : from numeric to analytical results / Gasull i Embid, Armengol (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Matemàtiques) ; Giacomini, Hector (Université de Tours (França). Laboratoire de Mathemátiques et Physique Théorique) ; Grau, Maite (Universitat de Lleida. Departament de Matemàticaa)
This note presents the results of [4]. It deals with the problem of location and existence of limit cycles for real planar polynomial differential systems. We provide a method to construct Poincaré-Bendixson regions by using transversal curves, that enables us to prove the existence of a limit cycle that has been numerically detected. [...]

New advances on the Lyapunov constants of some families of planar differential systems / Sánchez Sánchez, Iván (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Matemàtiques) ; Torregrosa, Joan (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Matemàtiques)
This note presents some advances regarding the Lyapunov constants of some families of planar polynomial differential systems, as a first step toward the resolution of the center and cyclicity problems. [...]

In Gasull and Mañosa (Periodic orbits of discrete and continuous dynamical systems via Poincaré-Miranda theorem, Preprint 2018 Ref [2]), we develop an effective procedure to prove the existence, determine the number, and locate periodic orbits of dynamical systems of both discrete and continuous nature. [...]

Clinical diagnosis of diseases dependant on genetics of patients is still limited due to the lack of quick, precise, cheap and reliable technological tools. Such diagnostic tools would allow the design of personalized treatments for each patient according to its genetic profile. [...]

40 p, 1005.6 KB Industrial relations in deep water : the Spanish public sector during the crisis / Molina Romo, Óscar 1962- ; Godino, Alejandro
For many years, in most European countries, the public sector has been under pressure to reduce expenditure and increase efficiency. Long-term pressures on the public sector, and especially the recent austerity drives following from the crisis, have led to reforms and cuts in public budgets with serious negative effects on the European Social Model, on the quality of public services and on social outcomes, including health and inequality. Departament de Matemàtiques) ; Gasull i Embid, Armengol (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Matemàtiques) ; Mañosa Fernández, Víctor 1971- (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Departament de Matemàtiques) ; Mañosas Capellades, Francesc (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Matemàtiques)
Let F be a real or complex n-dimensional map. It is said that F is globally periodic if there exists some p ∈ ℕ such that F(x) = x for all x, where F = F ◦ F , k ≥ 2. The minimal p satisfying this property is called the period of F. [...]

This article deals with relaxation oscillations from a generic balanced canard cycle Γ subject to three breaking parameters of Hopf or jump type. We prove that in a rescaled layer of Γ there bifurcate at most five relaxation oscillations.

The goal of this paper is to show what information on the set of periodic points of a homeomorphism on a closed surface can be obtained using the action of this homeomorphism on the homological groups of the closed surface.
