15 p, 1.2 MB The Upper Oligocene of Montgat (Catalan Coastal Ranges, Spain) : new age constrains to the western Mediterranean Basin opening. / Parcerisa i Duocastella, David (École des Mines de Paris. Centre d'Informatique Géologique) ; Gómez-Gras, David (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Geologia) ; Roca, Eduard (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Geodinàmica i Geofísica) ; Madurell i Malapeira, Joan (ICREA. Institute of Human Paleoecology) ; Agustí Ballester, Jordi (ICREA. Institute of Human Paleoecology)
The Oligocene deposits of Montgat are integrated in a small outcrop made up of Cenozoic and Mesozoic rocks located in the Garraf-Montnegre horst, close to the major Barcelona fault. The Oligocene of Montgat consists of detrital sediments of continental origin mainly deposited in alluvial fan environments; these deposits are folded and affected by thrusts and strike-slip faults. 16 p, 1.1 MB Depositional models of lacustrine evaporites in the SE margin of the Ebro Basin (Paleogene, NE Spain) / Ortí, F. (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Geoquímica, Petrologia i Prospecció Geològica) ; Playà i Pous, Elisabet (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Geoquímica, Petrologia i Prospecció Geològica)
An important evaporitic sedimentation occurred during the Paleogene (Eocene to lower Oligocene) in the Barberà sector of the southeastern margin of the Tertiary Ebro Basin. This sedimentation took place in shallow lacustrine environments and was controlled by a number of factors: 1) the tectonic structuration of the margin; 2) the high calcium sulphate content in the meteoric waters coming from the marginal reliefs; 3) the semiarid climate; and 4) the development of large alluvial fans along the basin margin, which also conditioned the location of the saline lakes. Instituto de Carboquímica) ; Medinaceli, Alejandro (Clariant Productos, S.A.) ; Valero, Antonio (Clariant Productos, S.A.)
This study focuses on the synthesis at a pilot plant scale of zeolitic material obtained from the coal fly ashes of the Teruel and Narcea power plants in Spain. After the optimisation of the synthesis parameters at laboratory scale, the Teruel and Narcea fly ashes were selected as low and high glass fly ashes. [...]

The rugged karst terrain developed on the dolostones of the Miocene Cayman Formation (Fm) on Grand Cayman includes numerous large cavities that formed through the activity of tree roots. The surfaces of those cavities are coated with laminated calcrete crusts up to 8 cm thick that are formed of an alteration zone, an accretionary zone, and final infill of the cavities. [...]
