Moreover, although a number of researchers have discussed the role played by titles, like Bransford and Johnson (1972) and Genette (1987), or the translation of titles, as Nord (1993), when coming to the speci c genre of movies, there is scarce academic research about the translation of movie titles, perhaps because it has not been considered as a thorough translation activity. Gracias a un proyecto del Ministerio, desde la Uvic, la UAB y la UPF estamos analizando la función de las lenguas y las variedades lingüísticas en las películas multilingües (L3). Los objetivos del estudio son: realizar un estudio descriptivo de la traducción de películas que contengan una tercera lengua; proporcionar datos para refinar y ampliar los modelos teóricos existentes sobre la traducción audiovisual e investigar estrategias específicas para doblaje y subtitulado; y crear una base de datos consultable sobre películas multilingües, como herramienta para investigadores, formadores, aprendices y traductores profesionales. The translation of such texts poses important challenges, since language variation can manifest itself in different forms and fulfil certain functions, which could be stylistic, pragmatic or discursive.
