Dentro de la literatura policial en Bolivia, Periférica Blvd. (Periférica Boulevard), de Adolfo Cárdenas, no solo se constituye en la novela que mejor representa al género, a través del uso de la parodia ―entendida por Linda Hutcheon como «imitación con diferencia crítica» (1985: 37)―, el humor, el barroco como estilo, el palimpsesto de roles, la reconstruida habla periférica de sus personajes y una de las versiones más sugerentes de la ciudad de La Paz; sino que excede lo que cabría esperarse del género policial, posicionándose como una de las mejores (si no la mejor) novelas bolivianas escritas en los últimos treinta años.
Periférica Blvd. by Adolfo Cardenas stands out as one of the works that best represents the detective novel genre in Bolivia. Its prolific nature is related to its intelligent use of parody―described by Linda Hutcheon as «repetition with critical [ironic] distance» (1985: 37)―, humor, a baroque writing style, a palimpsest of roles, the reconstructed peripheral speech of its characters, and one of the most suggestive representations of the city of La Paz.
