/
Simo-Comas, Marta (University of Reading)
[...] The rewriting of any myth is always underpinned by a tension between continuity and rupture. Thus, although the figure of the werewolf will always be a metaphor for otherness and existential duality, it can also embody polarities of a philosophical, cultural, social and political kind that are determined by the epoch in which it is inscribed. Una forma d'orrore specificamente teatrale : The woman in black
/
[...] The article focuses on Stephen Mallatratt's play The Woman in Black (1987) and confronts it with the homonymous novel by Susan Hill (1983), that is its source. The goal of the article is to emphasize the originality of the play in comparison with the literary work, and to demonstrate how it employs specifically theatrical devices to achieve its horror effects.
[...] The text studies the short story of the Mexican Amparo Dávila "The Guest" (1959) in the light of a certain type of postmodern horror, where what is left unsaid, what is suggested, is more important than what is stated explicitly.
[...] In this article, we lay out a theoretical-analytical proposal regarding the construction of space in fantastic horror; not from the point of view of a typology of sceneries or environments, but as a structural mediation that paves the way to deal with social, cultural, and political conflicts from quite another perspective. /
Núñez Sabarís, Xaquín (Universidade do Minho. Departamento de Estudos Românicos - Instituto de Letras e Ciências Humanas)
Trece badaladas, a Galician novel written by Suso de Toro, translated into Spanish as Trece campanadas, won the National Literature Prize for Narrative (Spain) in 2003. Later that year, a film based on the story was released in cinemas with the same title. [...]
[...] This paper seeks to analyze the representation of the mother as a terrifying figure in two present horror films: The Babadook (2014) and Ich seh, ich seh (2014). In both, the horror is based on the relation between mother and sons, whose tension can be understood from the concept of the abject (Kristeva, 1980). [...]

[...] The fantastic genre is difficult to qualify because its characteristics are uncertain and it's often defined in accordance to what is different from the others genres: fairy tales and science-fiction.
[...] We would like to investigate the recurrence of a thematic complex in a set of horror movies in which the supernatural and terrifying event appears closely related to the resurgence of an ancient trauma, removed and long-buried in the past, who's trying to come into the light.
[...] The present article strives to analyse, in a necessarily synthetic way, the main interpretive currents that have led to the study of Dracula, the novel published by Bram Stoker in 1897. The objective is to better capture what academic interests this novel has generated and how it has gone from being considered a mediocre product to becoming a classic of contemporary literature.
