14 p, 673.2 KB Natural groundwater quality and health / Jordana, S. (Enviros Spain S. L.) ; Batista, E. (Agència Catalana de l'Aigua)
Natural groundwater composition and quality is of concern because it is used worldwide as a freshwater supply. Discarding artificial pollution, epidemiological studies have shown that many communities suffer important diseases linked to the groundwater ingested since several tens of years ago. [...]

Institute of Geography and Spatial Management) ; Chelmicki, W. (Jagiellonian University (Polònia). Institute of Geography and Spatial Management)
Spring water chemical composition was investigated in three catchments (i. e. Pradnik, Dlubnia and Szreniawa) located within a carbonate-rock monocline from the Upper Jurassic and Cretaceous periods and constituting voluminous aquifers. [...]

This paper compares and contrasts some of the science and public perceptions of the role of forests in relation to the water environment. It is suggested that the disparity between the two perceptions needs to be addressed before we are in a position to devise and develop land and water policies (whether market or non-market based) which are aimed at either improving the water environment, and by doing so improving the livelihoods of poor people by greater access to water, or conserving and protecting forests. (Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Institute of Hydrodynamics) ; Prazák, J. (Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Institute of Thermomechanics) ; Lichner, L. (Slovak Academy of Sciences. Institute of Hydrology)
Two anomalous phenomena were observed in a small catchment: 1) In some situations, the water supplied by rain caused a pronounced decrease in the soil water content. 2) In these periods, the soil water movement could be explained only by assuming an irregularly oscillating outflow of soil water into lower horizons. [...]

As a consequence of an increase of days with westerly atmospheric fluxes, bringing humid air masses from the Atlantic Ocean to Western Europe, important changes in the annual and seasonal distribution of rainfall have been observed over the past 150 years. [...]

In an era of increasing contest for limited water resources a wise joint management of conventional and non-conventional water resources must be considered. Water scarcity aggravates in coastal zones which are often characterised by high population density, intense economic activity and tourism meaning heavy seasonal water demands. [...]

(Universidad de Almería. Departamento de Hidrogeología) ; Gisbert, J. (Universidad de Almería. Departamento de Hidrogeología)
The lack of water in the coastal areas demands an onerous search for an appropriate solution. One solution is that of water transfer from areas of surplus, but this is itself problematical. Technological developments have introduced the possibility of utilizing desalinated seawater as a drinking water source at a competitive price. [...]
