17 p, 1.5 MB RETRASO, a code for modeling reactive transport in saturated and unsaturated porous media / Saaltink, Maarten (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Departament d'Enginyeria Geotècnica i Geociències) ; Batlle Pifarré, Francisco (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Departament d'Enginyeria Geotècnica i Geociències) ; Ayora, Carles (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (Espanya). Institut de Ciències de la Terra Jaume Almera) ; Carrera, Jesús (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Departament d'Enginyeria Geotècnica i Geociències) ; Olivella, Sebastià (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Departament d'Enginyeria Geotècnica i Geociències)
The code RETRASO (REactive TRAnsport of SOlutes) simulates reactive transport of dissolved and gaseous species in non-isothermal saturated or unsaturated problems. Possible chemical reactions include aqueous complexation (including redox reactions), sorption, precipitation-dissolution of minerals and gas dissolution. [...]

14 p, 1.6 MB Magnetostratigraphy of the Miocene continental deposits of the Montes de Castejón (central Ebro basin, Spain): geochronological and paleoenvironmental implications / Pérez-Rivarés, F. J. (Universidad de Zaragoza. Departamento de Ciencias de la Tierra) ; Garcés Crespo, Miguel (Universitat de Barcelona. Grup de recerca consolidat Geodinàmica i Anàlisi de Conques (GGAC)) ; Arenas, C. (Universidad de Zaragoza. Departamento de Anatomía, Embriología y Genética Animal. Departamento de Ciencias de la Tierra) ; Pardo, G. (Universidad de Zaragoza. Departamento de Anatomía, Embriología y Genética Animal. Departamento de Ciencias de la Tierra)
A detailed magnetostratigraphic study has been carried out in the early to middle Miocene distal alluvial and lacustrine sediments of the Montes de Castejón (central Ebro Basin). The study was based on the analysis of 196 magnetostratigraphic sites sampled along a stratigraphic interval of about 240 meters. [...]

New magnetic anisotropy data from Variscan mudstones collected in the Cantabrian Arc, N Spain constrain the corresponding strain (shortening). The results are based on our previous study of mudrocks from the Valley and Ridge Province (Appalachians) where independent strain quantification of pencil structures permitted a correlation between magnetic fabric and tectonic strain. 10 p, 1.3 MB On the origin of the North Pacific arcs / Gelabert Ferrer, Bernardí (Universitat de les Illes Balears. Departament de Ciències de la Terra) ; Sàbat i Montserrat, Francesc (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Dinàmica de la Terra i de l'Oceà) ; Rodríguez Perea, Antonio (Universitat de les Illes Balears. Departament de Ciències de la Terra) ; Fornós, Joan J. (Universitat de les Illes Balears. Departament de Ciències de la Terra)
We present a new hypothesis that relates global plate tectonics to the formation of marginal basins, island arcs, spreading ridges and arc-shaped mountain belts around the North Pacific Ocean. According to our model, the ellipsoidal-shaped Paleogene basins of the South China Sea, Parece-Vela Basin, Shikoku Basin, Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk in addition to those of the North American Cordillera can be attributed to the change in plate convergence direction at 42 Ma between the Indoaustralian and Eurasian plates. (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Centro de Geociencias) ; Alaniz-Álvarez, S. A. (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Centro de Geociencias)
A system of normal faults with similar strike that bound rotated blocks in the Sierra de San Miguelito, central Mexico, was studied to determine the genesis of rotation and to estimate the extensional strain. [...]
