The Au-Cu (±Pb, Zn, Ag) prospects of Lavras do Sul, southernmost Brazil, are hosted in Neoproterozoic granitic and volcanogenic rocks. Mineralization occurs in structurally controlled N40°W to E-W quartz veins; sericite (±chlorite) and sulfides are the main secondary minerals in associated wall rocks. [...]

In Sweden and in many other countries, a bentonite barrier will be used in the repository for spent nuclear fuel. In the event of canister failure, colloidal diffusion is a potential, but scarcely studied mechanism of radionuclide migration through the bentonite barrier. [...]

School of Earth and Environment) ; Gilkes, Robert J. (The University of Western Australia. School of Earth and Environment)
Differentiating clay minerals that formed in a supergene environment during deep chemical weathering from those that formed during hydrothermal alteration at higher temperatures associated with a mineralizing event is important in the exploration for epithermal Au deposits. [...]

New point-of-care diagnostic devices are urgently needed for rapid and accurate diagnosis, particularly in the management of life-threatening infections and sepsis, where immediate treatment is key. Sepsis is a critical condition caused by systemic response to infection, with chances of survival drastically decreasing every hour. [...]

This paper presents archaeological layer XXV from Cova del Gegant (Sitges, Barcelona), ascribed to Bronze Age, and focuses on this period's chronological issues. Cova del Gegant yielded Late Bell Beaker pottery featuring a decorative style akin to the "Northeastern Group" (generally ascribed to Early Bronze Age), human remains associated with a collective burial (radiocarbon dated to Middle Bronze Age), amber and/or resin ornaments, and two gold artifacts (very scarce in the NE of Iberian Peninsula). [...]

Lateral flow paper-based biosensors merge as powerful tools in point-of-care diagnostics since they are cheap, portable, robust, selective, fast and easy to use. However, the sensitivity of this type of biosensors is not always as high as required, often not permitting a clear quantification. [...]

Solid-phase isothermal recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) offers many benefits over the standard RPA in homogeneous phase in terms of sensitivity, portability, and versatility. However, RPA devices reported to date are limited by the need for heating sources to reach sensitive detection. [...]

Approaches are needed for the tailored assembly of plasmonic building blocks on the surface of substrates to synergistically enhance their properties. Here we demonstrate selective immobilization and assembly of gold nanorods (NRs) on substrates modified and patterned with end-grafted poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) layers. [...]
