The investigation undertaken here aims at the historical and critical analysis of the agentstructure debate both in its general conceptualization in the social sciences and in its.
concrete channelling in the theories of International Relations. It also explores the virtues that the adoption of new ontological frameworks coming from philosophy could bring to the debate. Specifically, the proposal of social ontology elaborated by Manuel De Landa is studied in order to scrutinize it and evaluate its suitability in accordance with the stipulated objectives.
