In this article, the origins of the spelling sequence <mpn> in the medieval Castilian documentation are investigated. Given the fact that this sequence was created in the Late Roman Empire scriptae and that it is present in medieval Castilian documentation as well, a continuity in its use between these two periods of time could be inferred.
