Microglia are the main immune cells of the central nervous system (CNS), and they are devoted to the active surveillance of the CNS during homeostasis and disease. In the last years, the microglial receptor Triggering Receptor Expressed on Myeloid cells-2 (TREM2) has been defined to mediate several microglial functions, including phagocytosis, survival, proliferation, and migration, and to be a key regulator of a new common microglial signature induced under neurodegenerative conditions and aging, also known as disease-associated microglia (DAM). 19 p, 4.6 MB Severe Perinatal Hypoxic-Ischemic Brain Injury Induces Long-Term Sensorimotor Deficits, Anxiety-Like Behaviors and Cognitive Impairment in a Sex-, Age- and Task-Selective Manner in C57BL/6 Mice but Can Be Modulated by Neonatal Handling / Muntsant, Aida (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Neurociències) ; Shrivastava, Kalpana (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Biologia Cel·lular, de Fisiologia i d'Immunologia) ; Recasens Torné, Mireia (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Perinatal brain injury (PBI) leads to neurological disabilities throughout life, from motor deficits, cognitive limitations to severe cerebral palsy. Yet, perinatal brain damage has limited therapeutic outcomes. [...]

28 p, 4.9 MB Short and Long-Term Analysis and Comparison of Neurodegeneration and Inflammatory Cell Response in the Ipsilateral and Contralateral Hemisphere of the Neonatal Mouse Brain after Hypoxia/Ischemia / Shrivastava, Kalpana (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Neurociències) ; Chertoff, Mariela (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Neurociències) ; Llovera, Gemma (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Neurociències) ; Recasens, Mireia (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Neurociències) ; Acarín Pérez, Laia (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Neurociències)
Understanding the evolution of neonatal hypoxic/ischemic is essential for novel neuroprotective approaches. We describe the neuropathology and glial/inflammatory response, from 3 hours to 100 days, after carotid occlusion and hypoxia (8% O, 55 minutes) to the C57/BL6 P7 mouse. [...]

Institut de Neurociències) ; Gimenez-Llort, Lydia (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Neurociències)
During postnatal development, microglia, the resident innate immune cells of the central nervous system are constantly monitoring the brain parenchyma, cleaning the cell debris, the synaptic contacts overproduced and also maintaining the brain homeostasis. [...]
