15 p, 743.5 KB Zero-Hopf bifurcations in three-dimensional chaotic systems with one stable equilibrium / Llibre, Jaume (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Matemàtiques) ; Messias, Marcelo (Universidade Estadual Paulista. Departamento de Matemática e Computação (Brazil)) ; De Carvalho Reinol, Alisson (Universidade Tecnológica Federal Do Paraná. Departamento Acadêmico de Matemática (Brazil))
In (Molaie et al. , Int J Bifurcat Chaos 23 (2013) 1350188) the authors provided the expressions of twenty three quadratic differential systems in R3 with the unusual feature of having chaotic dynamics coexisting with one stable equilibrium point. [...]

17 p, 398.1 KB Random interval homeomorphisms / Alsedà i Soler, Lluís (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Matemàtiques) ; Misiurewicz, Michal (IUPUI(Indianapolis). Department of Mathematical Sciences)
We investigate homeomorphisms of a compact interval, applied randomly. We consider this system as a skew product with the two-sided Bernoulli shift in the base. If on the open interval there is a metric in which almost all maps are contractions, then (with mild additional assumptions) there exists a global pullback attractor, which is a graph of a function from the base to the fiber. 17 p, 467.5 KB Basin of attraction of triangular maps with applications / Cimà, Anna (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Matemàtiques) ; Gasull, Armengol (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Matemàtiques) ; Mañosa Fernández, Víctor 1971- (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Departament de Matemàtica Aplicada III)
We consider planar triangular maps xn+1 = f0(un) + f1(un)xn, un+1 = φ(un). These maps preserve the fibration of the plane given by F = {φ(u) = c, c ∈ Image(φ)}. We assume that there exists an invariant attracting fiber {u = u∗} for the dynamical system generated by φ and we study the limit dynamics of those points in the basin of attraction of this invariant fiber, assuming that either it contains a global attractor, or it is filled by fixed or 2-periodic points. We propose an approach to the attractors of skew products that tries to avoid unnecessary structures on the base space and rejects the assumption on the invariance of an attractor. When nonivertible maps in the base are allowed, one can encounter the mystery of the vanishing attractor. [...]

4 p, 302.1 KB Progressive breakdown dynamics and entropy production in ultrathin SiO2 gate oxides / Miranda, Enrique (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; Suñé, Jordi, 1963- (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; Jiménez Jiménez, David (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; American Physical Society
The progressive breakdown of ultrathin (≈2nm) SiO2 gate oxides subjected to constant electrical stress is investigated using a simple equivalent circuit model. It is shown how the interplay among series, parallel, and filamentary conductances that represent the breakdown path and its surroundings leads under certain hypothesis to a sigmoidal current-time characteristic compatible with the experimental observations.
