The present dissertation aims at comparing the use of requests by speakers of British English and Peninsular Spanish. By means of previous research in the field of contrastive pragmatics and the use of corpus-based examples, this study will try to provide evidence to support the argument that speakers of British English have a tendency towards using indirect strategies when uttering requests while Peninsular Spanish speakers are more prone to use direct strategies during the act of requesting.
La present tesi té com a objectiu comparar l'ús de les peticions produïdes per parlants d'anglès britànic i d'espanyol peninsular. A partir d'estudis previs en l'àmbit de la pragmàtica contrastiva així com de l'ús d'exemples provinents de diversos corpus, aquest estudi pretén proporcionar evidència que doni suport a l'afirmació que sosté que els parlants d'anglès britànic tenen tendència a fer servir estratègies indirectes a l'hora de formular peticions mentre els parlants d'espanyol peninsular sovint formulen peticions de caire directe.
La presente tesis tiene como objetivo comparar el uso de las peticiones producidas por hablantes del inglés británico y del español peninsular. A partir de estudios previos en el ámbito de la pragmática contrastiva así como del uso de ejemplos provenientes de diversos corpus, este estudio pretende proporcionar evidencia suficiente que respalde la afirmación que sostiene que los hablantes del inglés británico tienen tendencia a utilizar estrategias indirectas a la hora de formular peticiones mientras los hablantes del español peninsular suelen formular peticiones de tipo indirecto.
