This necessarily requires the investigation of the history of science fiction in both film and literature, as well as the analysis and confrontation of the following issues: the various theories arising from the concept of genre itself; the differences between film genres and literary genres; the differences and similarities between science fiction and contiguous genres, such as the fantastic, the marvellous, and realism; the most important theoretical studies dedicated explicitly and specifically to science fiction; the various definitions of science fiction; the most relevant characteristics of this genre.
