Translation as a Critical Practice : using Retranslation when Teaching Translation
/
Evans, Jonathan (University of Portsmouth. School of Languages and Area Studies)
This article addresses the question of how to relate translation theory to translation practice when teaching translation. Retranslation is viewed as a critical practice (kydd 2011) that integrates critical engagement with existing translations and theory into practice. [...]
/
Coste, Didier (Université Bordeaux 3)
Barcelona was chosen as the key geographic centre of interest in this paper not for its own sake but because its social, architectural and mythical topography exemplifies perfectly the ambiguous or even paradoxical position of translation in relation to the "original" text and the "source" language: is its location marginal (commentary, digression or appendix) or is it "central" in the sense that it reveals the core or matrix of the text translated? Barcelona, with its obscure Raval (suburb) at its centre, as the Id in Freudian psychic topography, translates itself outwards in successive layers of repression and return of the repressed. [...]

On study the ms of the Triunfi of Petrarca conserved near the Ateneo Barcelonés, whose first part is found to the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (esp. 524). Through the analysis of variant, one traces the copy back to an eclectic apograph (group III of the families characterized from Appel), even if emphasizes the value because is the only copy ms of the Italian text conserved in Spain, and it appears accompanied from the Catalan translation of the comment of Illicino.

The present paper studies Macrobius' intertextual references (whether direct, indirect, explicit or not) at his commentary on Cicero's Somnium Scipionis, specifically the fragment about the doctrine of the music of spheres and the armonia mundi; these resources work in the process of transformation and resignification under which the commentary as a discursive type acquires its form.
