8 p, 3.1 MB 2 × 2 charge density wave in single-layer TiTe₂ / Guster, Bogdan (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Robles, Roberto (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Pruneda, Miguel (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Canadell Casanova, Enric (Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona) ; Ordejón Rontomé, Pablo (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia)
A density functional theory study concerning the origin of the recently reported 2 × 2 charge density wave (CDW) instability in single-layer TiTe₂ is reported. It is shown that, whereas calculations employing the semi-local functional PBE favor the undistorted structure, the hybrid functional HSE06 correctly predicts a 2 × 2 distortion. [...]

Departamento de Matemáticas y Estadística) ; Bolfarine, Heleno (Universidade de São Paulo. Departamento de Estadística) ; Gómez, Héctor W. (Universidad de Antofagasta (Antofagasta, Xile). Departamento de Matemáticas)
In this paper we investigate an extension of the power-normal model, called the alpha-power model and specialize it to linear and nonlinear regression models, with and without correlated errors. Maximum likelihood estimation is considered with explicit derivation of the observed and expected Fisher information matrices. [...]

Dipartimento di Economia Politica e Statistica) ; Salvatore, Renato (Universita degli Studi di Siena. Dipartimento di Economia Politica e Statistica)
This paper deals with small area estimation of poverty indicators. Small area estimators of these quantities are derived from partitioned time-dependent area-level linear mixed models. The introduced models are useful for modelling the different behaviour of the target variable by sex or any other dichotomic characteristic. [...]

Abstract—Computed Tomography (CT) is a noninvasive medical test obtained via a series of X-ray exposures resulting in 3D images that aid medical diagnosis. Previous approaches for coding such 3D images propose to employ multi-component transforms to exploit correlation among CT slices, but these approaches do not always improve coding performance with respect to a simpler slice-by-slice coding approach. 42 p, 806.0 KB Analysing visual receptive fields through generalised additive models with interactions / Rodríguez-Álvarez, María Xosé ; Cadarso-Suárez, Carmen ; González, Francisco
Visual receptive fields (RFs) are small areas of the visual field where a stimulus induces a responses of a particular neuron from the visual system. RFs can be mapped using reverse crosscorrelation technique, which produces raw matrices containing both spatial and temporal information about the RF. [...]

Optimizing tumor-size estimation with imaging techniques for higher precision / Brenner Anidjar, Rony-David ; Luna Tomás, Miguel-Ángel, dir. ; Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Facultat de Medicina
The use of Breast-MRI in surgical planning of breast cancer is a field of controversy due to its high sensitivity but low specificity, alongside with overestimation of tumor-size. It has been proven many factors contribute to this overestimation. [...]

In this thesis we study constraining cosmology when combining spectroscopic and photometric galaxy survey. The photometric survey measures galaxy shape distortions from Weak Lensing (WL), while high precision redshift information makes spectroscopic surveys ideal for redshift space distortions (RSD).
