16 p, 3.6 MB Geochemistry of Precordillera serpentinites, western Argentina : evidence for multistage hydrothermal alteration and tectonic implications for the Neoproterozoic-early Paleozoic / Boedo, F. L. (Universidad de Buenos Aires. Departamento de Ciencias Geológicas) ; Escayola, M. P. (Universidad de Buenos Aires. Departamento de Ciencias Geológicas) ; Pérez Luján, S. B. (Universidad Nacional de San Juan (Argentina). Facultad de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales) ; Vujovich, Graciela (Universidad de Buenos Aires. Departamento de Ciencias Geológicas) ; Ariza, J. P. (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET). Instituto Geofísico Sismológico Volponi) ; Naipauer, M. (Universidad de Buenos Aires. Departamento de Ciencias Geológicas)
Serpentinites are a powerful tool to evaluate mantle composition and subsequent alteration processes during their tectonic emplacement. Exposures of this type of rocks can be found in the Argentine Precordillera (Cuyania terrane) and Frontal Cordillera, both located in central-western Argentina, within the Central Andes. [...]

22 p, 2.1 MB The Early Paleozoic history of the Cuyania (greater Precordillera) terrane of western Argentina : evidence from geochronology of detrital zircons from Middle Cambrian sandstones / Finney, S. (California State University at Long Beach. Department of Geological Sciences) ; Peralta, S. (CONICET. Universidad Nacional de San Juan) ; Gehrels, G. (University of Arizona. Department of Geosciences) ; Marsaglia, K. (California State University at Northridge. Department of Geological Sciences)
U-Pb geochronology of large detrital zircons populations is a powerful tool for interpreting sandstone provenance. Here, it is applied to three Middle Cambrian sandstones from the Precordillera of Argentina with the purpose of using the provenance interpretations to test paleogeographic and paleotectonic models proposed for the Cuyania or Precordillera terrane. 32 p, 2.0 MB The Parautochthonous Gondwanan origin of the Cuyania (greater Precordillera) terrane of Argentina : a re-evaluation of evidence used to support an allochthonous Laurentian origin / Finney, S. C. (California State University. Department of Geological Sciences)
A substantial, diverse body of evidence has been interpreted as suggesting that the Cuyania terrane of northwestern Argentina, which includes the Argentine Precordillera, rifted from the Ouachita embayment of Laurentia in the Early Cambrian, drifted across the Iapetus ocean as a microcontinent, and docked with the proto-Andean margin of Gondwana in the Mid to Late Ordovician.
