Partiendo de la centralidad que el campo de la comunicación ocupa en el debate modernidad/postmodernidad, se analiza el peso que los medios de comunicación han adquirido tanto en los sucesivos procesos de modernización de América Latina como en los modos en que ésta se apropia de la modernidad; y se rescata como un "tema" estratégico en el campo de la comunicación y en el debate la cuestión del pluralismo en que desemboca la postmoderna exaltación de la diferencia.
