Mainstream discourses frame anthropogenic climate change as a biophysical apolitical problem, thus privileging Western science and silencing other worldviews. Through a case study among the Bassari, an ethnic group in South-Eastern Senegal, we assess the local, embodied, and situated understandings of climate change and the tensions that arise when the apolitical global climate change discourse interacts with situated understandings.
[...] This paper addresses the discourses that develop part of the Spanish middle classes about consumption before the economic crisis of 2008 and its evolution once the crisis has started. It is proposed to analyze the senses built on consumption, as well as to calibrate the extent to which these discourses have been modified through of "discursive cuts" with the advent of the great recession, according to the existing literature. Quantifying disease costs is critical for policymakers to set priorities, allocate resources, select control and prevention strategies, and evaluate the cost-effectiveness of interventions. Although malaria carries a very large disease burden, the availability of comprehensive and comparable estimates of malaria costs across endemic countries is scarce. [...]
