The 19th century Spanish society promoted the institutionalization of foundlings' assistance. The orphanages became training centres in which a hidden curriculum was developed ot only with the objective to protect helpless children, but also to make a better biopolitical use of a society which, to be able to advance, needed strong and docile citizens.
