Social-ecological systems in the Mediterranean Basin are characterised by high biodiversity and a prolonged cultural influence, leading to the co-evolution of these systems. The unique characteristics of Mediterranean social-ecological systems, current pressures leading to a decline in ecosystem services, and the need for coordinated action are recognised by policies promoting the protection and sustainable use of the region’s heritage. Metabolic impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems : Implications for fish communities and fisheries / Carozza, David A. (McGill University. Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences) ; Bianchi, Daniele (University of California. Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences) ; Galbraith, Eric D. (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals)
Aim:Climate change will reshape marine ecosystems over the 21st century through diverse and complex mechanisms that are difficult to assess quantitatively. Here, we characterize expectations for how marine community biomass will respond to the energetic consequences of changes in primary production and temperature‐dependent metabolic rates, under a range of fishing/conservation scenarios. ), Climate justice : case studies in global and regional governance challenges. Washington: Environmental Law Institute, 2016.
Climate change is a serious global issue, as it affects all components of the Earth, including humanity. This book deals with the obvious difficulties at the time of guaranteeing the existence of climate justice, given the heterogeneity of the availability of resources, and the prioritisation of the interests of certain countries regarding those of others.

The increase in aridity, mainly by decreases in precipitation but also by higher temperatures, is likely the main threat to the diversity and survival of Mediterranean forests. Changes in land use, including the abandonment of extensive crop activities, mainly in mountains and remote areas, and the increases in human settlements and demand for more resources with the resulting fragmentation of the landscape, hinder the establishment of appropriate management tools to protect Mediterranean forests and their provision of services and biodiversity. This thesis is aimed to better understanding the coupled social-ecological systems and their change over time in a holistic and relational way. It intends to show that productive rural activities are not necessarily incompatible with conservation of biodiversity, and that some of these activities, even when they are quite integrated with market economies, are indispensable to conserve the cultural landscapes that modern urban societies want to protect. The assembly, structuring and functioning of natural communities, composed of many species forming complex networks of ecological interactions, has puzzled ecologists for many generations. Early ecological research determined that community size and complexity (measured as connectivity in the network of ecological interactions) limit community stability, and hence impose constraints to communities to become indefinitely complex or speciose. [...]
