Département de Physique) ; Alzina, Francesc (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia)
We provide a detailed analytical calculation of the Brillouin light scattering (BLS) intensity of a layer on a substrate, taking into account both photoelastic and moving boundary (ripple effect) mechanisms, and give a comparison between BLS intensity and density of states (DOS) to determine the dispersion curves of longitudinal guided modes in the supported layer. 21 p, 2.0 MB Field Effect in Graphene-Based van der Waals Heterostructures : Stacking Sequence Matters / Stradi, Daniele (QuantumWise A/S) ; Papior, Nick (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Hansen, O. (Technical University of Denmark. Department of Micro- and Nanotechnology) ; Brandbyge, Mads (Technical University of Denmark. Department of Micro- and Nanotechnology)
Stacked van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures where semiconducting two-dimensional (2D) materials are contacted by overlaid graphene electrodes enable atomically thin, flexible electronics. We use first-principles quantum transport simulations of graphene-contacted MoS devices to show how the transistor effect critically depends on the stacking configuration relative to the gate electrode. 32 p, 2.3 MB FeCoCp₃ molecular magnets as spin filters / Abufager, Paula (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Robles, Roberto (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Lorente Palacios, Nicolás (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia)
Metallorganic molecules have been proposed as excellent spin filters in molecular spintronics because of the large spin polarization of their electronic structure. However, most of the studies involving spin transport have disregarded fundamental aspects such as the magnetic anisotropy of the molecule and the excitation of spin-flip processes during electron transport. [...]

15 p, 9.5 MB Addressing the Environment Electrostatic Effect on Ballistic Electron Transport in Large Systems : A QM/MM-NEGF Approach / Feliciano, Gustavo T. (Universidade Estadual Paulista (Brasil)) ; Sanz Navarro, Carlos (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Coutinho-Neto, Mauricio Domingues (Universidade Federal do ABC (Brasil)) ; Ordejon, Pablo (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Scheicher, Ralph H. (Uppsala University) ; Reily Rocha, Alexandre (Universidade Estadual Paulista (Brasil))
The effects of the environment in nanoscopic materials can play a crucial role in device design. Particularly in biosensors, where the system is usually embedded in a solution, water and ions have to be taken into consideration in atomistic simulations of electronic transport for a realistic description of the system. 7 p, 288.2 KB On the exponent of convergence of negatively curved manifolds without Green's function / Melián, María V. (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Departamento de Matemáticas) ; Rodríguez García, Jose M. (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Departamento de Matemáticas) ; Tourís, Eva (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Departamento de Matemáticas)
In this paper we prove that for every complete n-dimensional Riemannian manifold without Green's function and with its sectional curvatures satisfying K ≤−1, the exponent of convergence is greater than or equal to n − 1. [...]

4 p, 336.0 KB Simulation of multilayered resonant tunneling diodes using coupled Wigner and Boltzmann distribution function approaches / García García, Juan José (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; Martín, Ferran, (Martín Antolín) (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; American Physical Society
From a coupling model between the Boltzmann transport equation and the quantum Liouville equation, we have developed a simulator based on the Wigner distribution function (WDF) approach that can be applied to resonant tunneling diodes (RTDs) and other vertical transport quantum devices. [...]
