24 p, 10.6 MB ZnO Structures with Surface Nanoscale Interfaces Formed by Au, FeO, or CuO Modifier Nanoparticles : Characterization and Gas Sensing Properties / Tomic, Milena (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; Claros, Martha (Brno University of Technology. Central European Institute of Technology) ; Gràcia, Isabel (Institut de Microelectrònica de Barcelona) ; Figueras Costa, Eduardo (Institut de Microelectrònica de Barcelona) ; Cané, Carles (Institut de Microelectrònica de Barcelona) ; Vallejos Vargas, Stella (Brno University of Technology. Central European Institute of Technology)
Zinc oxide rod structures are synthetized and subsequently modified with Au, FeO, or CuO to form nanoscale interfaces at the rod surface. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy corroborates the presence of Fe in the form of oxide-FeO; Cu in the form of two oxides-CuO and CuO, with the major presence of CuO; and Au in three oxidation states-Au 3+, Au +, and Au 0, with the content of metallic Au being the highest among the other states. 19 p, 2.0 MB A prototype reactor for highly selective solar-driven CO2 reduction to synthesis gas using nanosized earth-abundant catalysts and silicon photovoltaics / Urbain, Félix (Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya) ; Tang, PengYi (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Carretero González, Nina Magali (Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya) ; Andreu, Teresa (Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya) ; Gerling, Luis G. (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) ; Voz Sánchez, Cristóbal (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) ; Arbiol i Cobos, Jordi (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Morante, Joan Ramon (Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya)
The conversion of carbon dioxide (CO) into value-added chemicals and fuels, preferably using renewable energy and earth-abundant materials, is considered a key priority for future energy research. In this work, a bias-free reactor device for the solar-driven conversion of CO to synthesis gas (syngas) has been developed. [...]

4 p, 297.3 KB Simple model to study soliton wave propagation in periodic-loaded nonlinear transmission lines / Martín, Ferran, (Martín Antolín) (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; Oriols, Xavier (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; American Physical Society
A model to study soliton propagation characteristics in nonlinear transmission lines (NLTLs) periodically loaded with voltage dependent capacitances is presented. This is based on the LC ladder equivalent network of the NLTL, and can be applied to structures where the Korteweg-de Vries approach does not hold. [...]

We propose a mechanism for achieving bidirectional spin pumping in conventional nonmagnetic semiconductorresonant tunnelingheterostructures under zero magnetic field. The device is designed specifically to take advantage of the special spin configuration described by the Rashba effect in asymmetric quantum wells. [...]

4 p, 314.0 KB Self-consistent simulation of quantum shot noise in nanoscale electron devices / Oriols, Xavier (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; Trois, A. (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; Blouin, G. (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; American Physical Society
An approach for studying shot noise in mesoscopic systems that explicitly includes the Coulomb interaction among electrons, by self-consistently solving the Poisson equation, is presented. As a test, current fluctuations on a standard resonant tunneling diode are simulated in agreement with previous predictions and experimental results. [...]
