5 p, 1.2 MB Controlling vortex chirality and polarity by geometry in magnetic nanodots / Agramunt Puig, Sebastià (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Física) ; Valle Benedí, Nuria del (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Física) ; Navau Ros, Carles (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Física) ; Sánchez Moreno, Álvaro (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Física)
The independent control of both vortex chirality and polarity is a significant challenge in magnetic devices based on nano-sized magnetic vortex structures. By micromagnetic simulations here, we show that in soft ferromagnetic nanodots with an adequate modulated thickness, the desired combination of chirality and polarity can be achieved just by changing the direction of the in-plane applied magnetic field. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; Bonache Albacete, Jordi (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica)
An electrically small planar passive UHF-RFID tag based on an edge-coupled split ring resonator (EC-SRR) antenna is presented in this work. In order to explore the potentiality and limitations of the SRR antenna and to aid the tag design, an analytical study of the SRR radiation properties at its fundamental resonance is presented for the first time. (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Laboratorium voor Vaste-Stoffysica en Magnetisme) ; Bruynseraede, Y. (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Laboratorium voor Vaste-Stoffysica en Magnetisme) ; American Physical Society
Long chains of 400 nm diam Co dots prepared by combined electron-beam lithography exhibit interesting magnetotransport properties. The magnetoresistance of the chains of dots is markedly different from single Co films, indicating a strongly modified magnetization reversal process. [...]

Departament de Física Fonamental) ; Hernàndez Ferràs, Joan Manel (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Física Fonamental) ; American Physical Society
We have measured and calculated the magnetocaloric effect in macroscopic samples of oriented high-spin molecular clusters like Mn12 and Fe8 as a function of the temperature and both the intensity and the sweeping rate of the applied magnetic field. [...]
