9 p, 3.2 MB An association analysis between a polymorphism in the SEC24A gene and lipid traits recorded in Duroc pigs / Mármol-Sánchez, Emilio (Centre de Recerca en Agrigenòmica) ; Quintanilla, Raquel (Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries) ; Luigi Sierra, Maria Gracia (Centre de Recerca en Agrigenòmica) ; Amills i Eras, Marcel (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Ciència Animal i dels Aliments)
By regulating the expression of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR), the SEC24A protein modulates the clearance of plasma cholesterol in mice. The whole-genome sequencing of five Duroc boars that sired a Duroc purebred experimental population (LIPGEN population, 350 individuals) revealed the segregation of one putative nonsense mutation located at the SEC24A (rs336401826, c. [...]

7 p, 1.2 MB A Novel nonsense mutation (c.414G>A; p.Trp138*) in CLDN14 causes hearing loss in Yemeni families : a case report / Mohamed, Kamal Eldin Walaa (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Genètica i de Microbiologia) ; Mahfood, Mona (University of Sharjah. Department of Applied Biology) ; Mutery, Abdullah (University of Sharjah. Department of Applied Biology) ; Abdallah, Sallam Hasan (University of Sharjah. Research Institute of Sciences & Engineering) ; Tlili, Abdelaziz (University of Sharjah. Research Institute of Sciences & Engineering)
Non-syndromic hearing loss (NSHL) is a hereditary disorder that affects many populations. Many genes are involved in NSHL and the mutational load of these genes often differs among ethnic groups. Claudin-14 (CLDN14), a tight junction protein, is known to be associated with NSHL in many populations. [...]

27 p, 835.3 KB Detection of homozygous genotypes for a putatively lethal recessive mutation in the porcine argininosuccinate synthase 1 (ASS1) gene / Mármol-Sánchez, Emilio (Centre de Recerca en Agrigenòmica) ; Luigi Sierra, Maria Gracia (Centre de Recerca en Agrigenòmica) ; Quintanilla, Raquel (Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries) ; Amills i Eras, Marcel (Centre de Recerca en Agrigenòmica)
The sequencing of the pig genome revealed the existence of homozygous individuals for a nonsense mutation in the argininosuccinate synthase 1 (ASS1) gene (rs81212146, c. 944T>A, L315X). Paradoxically, an AA homozygous genotype for this polymorphism is expected to abolish the function of the ASS1 enzyme that participates in the urea cycle, leading to citrullinemia, hyperammonemia, coma and death.
This work intends to present a reading of Caza de conejos (1986), by Mario Levrero, following the idea that the strangeness and apparent "lack" of meaning of the novel is an effect of literary nonsense's narrative forms. [...]

This paper focuses on the parameters and elements that constitutes Lewis Carroll's cosmos in the book Through the Looking-Glass. Being a story written and directed towards children, Carroll evokes the most transgressive and demolishing part that hides within all of us. [...]

Departament de Filologia Anglesa i de Germanística) ; Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Facultat de Filosofia i Lletres
Since its first appearance in the Victorian Period, Nonsense has been considered a mere source of amusement and laughter. It has been classified as another children's literary genre, something to be used only to entertain them. [...]
