A taxonomic study of the Paleocene larger foraminifera from the Pyrenean basin has led to the description of sixty taxa including two new species: Alveolina korresensis and Valvulineria bacetai. In this work, we present a chronostratigraphic recalibration of the Paleocene Shallow Benthic Zones SBZ 1 to SBZ 4 based on correlation with calcareous nannofossil and planktic foraminifera biozones, all integrated within the stratigraphic framework of Paleocene platform to basin depositional sequences established for the whole Pyrenean domain. (Senckenberg Forschungsinstitut und Naturmuseum Frankfurt) ; Schaal, S. F. K. (Senckenberg Forschungsinstitut und Naturmuseum Frankfurt)
The Konservat-Lagerstätte Menat (Puy-de-Dôme, France) is an outstanding archive of a Paleocene ecosystem, which was deposited in a former maar lake. Excavations during the last century have yielded an extensive flora and fauna record, therefore an overview of the current state of paleontological investigations is given in this paper. [...]

14 p, 2.2 MB Revision of the Maastrichtian-Palaeocene charophyte biostratigraphy of the Fontllonga reference section (southern Pyrenees, Catalonia, Spain) / Vicente, Alba (Universitat de Barcelona.
The Fontllonga section is one of the best-known stratigraphic sections wordwide for the study of charophyte biostratigraphy of the Maastrichtian and lower Palaeocene. An updated proposal for the charophyte biostratigraphy of this section is presented after summarizing previous knowledge. [...]

19 p, 3.6 MB Tectonic implications of paleontologic dating of Cretaceous-Danian sections of Eastern Cuba / Iturralde-Vinent, M. A. (Museo Nacional de Historia Natural) ; Díaz-Otero, C. (Cuba. Instituto de Geología y Paleontología) ; Rodríguez-Vega, A. (Cuba. Instituto Superior Minero-Metalúrgico) ; Díaz-Martínez, Roberto (Cuba. Instituto Superior Minero-Metalúrgico)
The sedimentary rocks intercalated in volcanic and metavolcanic sections of Mayarí-Baracoa and Sierra del Purial Mountains (Eastern Cuba), yielded Cretaceous through Danian microfossils. In the Mayarí Mountains the Téneme Fm consists of basalts and hyaloclastites with minor intercalations of well-bedded foliated limestone and shaly limestone that in the type area contain a Turonian or early Coniacian planktonic foraminifera assemblage. The Galala Mountains in Egypt provide an excellent platform-basin transect with deposits spanning the Paleocene/ Eocene (P/E) boundary. These interfingering deposits enable a recalibration between platform and open marine biostratigraphic schemes. [...]

It has long been known that a major larger foraminifera turnover (LFT) occurred at the boundary between the Thanetian and Ilerdian stages, but its possible correlation with the Paleocene-Eocene thermal maximum (PETM) was unsuspected until the work of Baceta (1996), and has been controversial ever since. Laboratorio de Paleobotánica, Centro de Investigaciones Científicas) ; Matheos, S. (CONICET. Centro de Investigaciones Geológicas)
The Paleocene-Eocene boundary was a period of transient and intense global warming that had a deep effect on middle and high latitude plant groups.
