Indigenous Peoples are long-term custodians of their lands, but only recently are their contributions to conservation starting to be recognized in biodiversity policy and practice. Tropical forest loss and degradation are lower in Indigenous lands than unprotected areas, yet the role of Indigenous Peoples' Lands (IPL) in biodiversity conservation has not been properly assessed from regional to global scales. Aim: Plant functional traits summarize the main variability in plant form and function across taxa and biomes. We assess whether geographic range size, climatic niche size, and local abundance of plants can be predicted by sets of traits (trait syndromes) or are driven by single traits. [...]

4 p, 108.6 KB Tapinoma pymaeum (Dufour, 1857) (Hymenoptera, Formicidae), not a rare species / Espadaler, Xavier (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament de Biologia Animal, de Biologia Vegetal i d'Ecologia) ; García-Berthou, Emili (Universitat de Girona. Departament de Ciències Ambientals)
Tapinoma pygmaeum is an ant known from seven localities. Five of them are in the province of Girona (Spain). The apparent rarity and skewed distribution of this species is probably an artifact due to the confussion, in field samplings, with a similar species, Plagiolepis pygmaea.

This work tries to identify the areas with the highest interest for conservation in the Segura River basin using the aquatic coleopterans as a tool. The "Interés de Conservación" (Conservation Interest) index (IC) (Millán, 1991) was used, which regards to species richness and rarity. [...]
