12 p, 399.4 KB Marine crenarchaeotal membrane lipids in decapods : implications for the TEX 86 paleothermometer / Huguet, Carme (Huguet Micheo) (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research. Department of Marine Biogeochemistry and Toxicology) ; Cartes Rodríguez, Joan E. (Centre Mediterrani d'Investigacions Marines i Ambientals (CMIMA)) ; Damsté, Jaap S. Sinninghe (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research. Department of Marine Biogeochemistry and Toxicology) ; Schouten, Stefan (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research. Department of Marine Biogeochemistry and Toxicology)
Pelagic Crenarchaeota produce glycerol dibiphytanyl glycerol tetraethers (GDGTs) as membrane lipids, and the GDGT composition changes according to growth temperature. This forms the basis of the TEX86 paleotemperature proxy. [...]

5 p, 851.5 KB Instrumental validation of Globigerinoides ruber Mg/Ca as a proxy for NE Pacific summer SST / Mortyn, P. Graham (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals) ; Herguera, Juan Carlos (Centro de Investigación Científica y Educación Superior de Ensenada. Departamento de Oceanografía) ; Martínez Botí, M. A. (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals)
Accurate reconstruction of sea surface temperature (SST) is a high research priority, given that it is such a crucial variable in the Earth's climate system. The Mg/Ca composition of Globigerinoides ruber (white) has been calibrated and applied for a number of tropical and extratropical paleo-SST reconstructions, though validation studies of the proxy against instrumental observations are relatively scarce. 13 p, 739.9 KB Reconstruction of sea surface temperature variations in the Arabian Sea over the last 23 kyr using organic proxies (TEX86 and U37K') / Huguet, Carme (Huguet Micheo) (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research. Department of Marine Biogeochemistry and Toxicology) ; Kim, Jung-Hyun (Centre de Formation et de Recherche sur l'Environnement Marin) ; Sinninghe Damsté, Jaap S. (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research. Department of Marine Biogeochemistry and Toxicology) ; Schouten, Stefan (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research. Department of Marine Biogeochemistry and Toxicology)
Two sediment cores from the western Arabian Sea, NIOP905 and 74KL, were analyzed to determine sea surface temperature (SST) variations over the last 23 kyr. Two organic molecular SST proxies were used, the well-established U37K' based on long-chain unsaturated ketones synthesized by haptophyte algae and the newly proposed TEX86 derived from the membrane lipids of Crenarchaeota. 9 p, 596.8 KB A study of the TEX86 paleothermometer in the water column and sediments of the Santa Barbara Basin, California / Huguet, Carme (Huguet Micheo) (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research. Department of Marine Biogeochemistry and Toxicology) ; Schimmelmann, Arndt (Indiana University. Department of Geological Sciences) ; Thunell, Robert (University of South Carolina. Department of Geological Sciences) ; Lourens, Lucas J. (University Utrecht. Department of Earth Sciences) ; Sinninghe Damsté, Jaap S. (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research. Department of Marine Biogeochemistry and Toxicology) ; Schouten, Stefan (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research. Department of Marine Biogeochemistry and Toxicology)
Particulate organic matter collected during a 2-year period, as part of an ongoing sediment trap study, and a high-resolution sediment record from 1850 to 1987 A. D. from the Santa Barbara Basin were analyzed for TEX86, a temperature proxy based on marine crenarchaeotal membrane lipids. [...]
