Old-growth tropical forests harbor an immense diversity of tree species but are rapidly being cleared, while secondary forests that regrow on abandoned agricultural lands increase in extent. A total of 27 species of Formicidae were found. A direct relationship between vegetation structure and ant communities was observed. A clear difference between three communities can be recognised.
