26 p, 2.3 MB Modulation of population density and size of silver nanoparticles embedded in bacterial cellulose : via ammonia exposure: visual detection of volatile compounds in a piece of plasmonic nanopaper / Heli, B. (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Morales-Narváez, Eden (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Golmohammadi, Hamed (ACECR-Production Technology Institute) ; Ajji, A. (Polytechnique Montréal. Département de Génie Chimique) ; Merkoçi, Arben (Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats)
The localized surface plasmon resonance exhibited by noble metal nanoparticles can be sensitively tuned by varying their size and interparticle distances. We report that corrosive vapour (ammonia) exposure dramatically reduces the population density of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) embedded within bacterial cellulose, leading to a larger distance between the remaining nanoparticles and a decrease in the UV-Vis absorbance associated with the AgNP plasmonic properties. [...]

25 p, 2.3 MB Size-controlled synthesis of Sub-10-nanometer citrate-stabilized gold nanoparticles and related optical properties / Piella, Jordi (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Bastús, Neus G. (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Puntes, Víctor (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia)
Highly monodisperse, biocompatible and functionalizable sub-10-nm citrate-stabilized gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) have been synthesized following a kinetically controlled seeded-growth strategy. The use of traces of tannic acid together with an excess of sodium citrate during nucleation is fundamental in the formation of a high number (7 × 10 NPs/mL) of small ∼3. [...]
