This communication is about the scientific aspects of the travels of the Catalan expeditionary Domènec Badia, who is widely known as Alí Bei. We discuss the scientific motivations of his journey through Africa and Asia; we state his preparatory work concerning the acquisition of scientific instruments; we present his planning for the astronomical and meteorological observations; and, finally, we discuss the scientific legacy of his work, still partially unpublished.

Provisional inventory of and introductory study about the writings of the Catalan Countries travellers to the Arabic and Muslim World, in any language, from its mediaeval beginings until 2006. In the introduction, the territorial distribution of the places of journey, the origins of the denomination of these territories, the egodocumentary and documentary value of the writings, the subgenres and the tipology of the accounts and travellers, the value of the key words of the titles of these writings and this temporary variation from Middles Ages to the present ara approached; also it differs manuscrits, paper publications and works in electronic support, among other items.
