11 p, 420.9 KB Impact of the COVID-19 crisis on wages and wage setting / Molina Romo, Óscar 1962-
The COVID-19 crisis had a significant impact on wages and wage setting across Europe in 2020. The uncertain economic scenario, together with the difficulties inherent in online bargaining, led to a general postponement of collective agreements to 2021, especially at company level. [...]

The mobilisation of the workforce, its connection to a certain sequence of activities in the wealth creation processes, today involves increasingly complex combinations. The traditional employment relationship, constructed in Europe around the principle of the legal subordination of the worker and their regular participation in a company within well-defined boundaries, today faces a transformation process that is putting pressure on the traditional boundaries of salaried work, as well as its fundamental mechanisms and institutions. In a standard Diamond-Mortensen-Pissarides labour market with frictions, the authors seek to determine when there is more employment with individual wage bargaining than with collective wage bargaining, using a wage equation generated by the standard total surplus sharing rule. [...]

We carry out a classical development accounting exercise using data from the "Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies" (PIAAC). PIAAC data, available for 30 upper-middle and high-income countries and nationally representative for the working-age population, allow us to construct a multidimensional measure for the stock of human capital in each country, taking into account years of schooling, job experience, cognitive skills, on-the-job-training, and health. We document recent trends in gender equality in employment and wages in Spain. Despite an impressive decline in the gender gap in employment, females are still less likely to work than males: about 76% of working age males and 63% of working age females were employed in 2010. [...]

In this paper, we present a disequilibrium unemployment model without labor market frictions and monopolistic competition in the goods market within an infinite horizon model of growth. We consider different wage setting systems and compare wages, the unemployment rate, and income per capita in the long-run at firm, sector, and national (centralized) levels. [...]

Although some data show the end of the economic crisis, there are other indicators that show the opposite: there are some precarious workers that are still suffering the consequences of this crisis. We left the crisis with an employment model that links these workers to a precarious situation. [...]

Grup de Recerca Educació i Treball) ; Torrents Vilà, Dani (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Grup de Recerca Educació i Treball)
The economic context may have modified the relationship between higher education and the labour market. The rise in university fees, the labour market situation and the behaviour of employers, families and students could activate social background as a differentiating factor in post-higher education occupational status. [...]
Working time is a key aspect of the labour relationship; it is the issue in which businesses' management of working time centrally shapes workers' job and life quality. If present inflation trends continue, minimum wages will barely grow at all in real terms in any country in 2022. Significant losses in the purchasing capacity of minimum wage earners are likely to dominate the picture, unless the issue is addressed by policy changes during the year. [...]
