Yttrium iron garnet is widely investigated for its suitability in applications ranging from magneto-optical and microwave devices to magnonics. However, in the few-nanometer thickness range, epitaxial films exhibit a strong variability in magnetic behavior that hinders their implementation in technological devices. [...]

In the field of micromotors many efforts have been taken to find a substitute for peroxide as fuel. While most approaches turn towards other toxic high energy chemicals such as hydrazine, we introduce here an energy source that is widely used in nature: light. [...]

A major challenge to turn the potential of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into customer applications is to reduce or eliminate their toxicity. Taking into account health and safety concerns, intensified research efforts have been conducted to improve the biocompatibility of CNTs, including the development of new shortening and purification strategies. Two rationally designed strategies for covalent bonding of fluorescent dyes in coordination polymer nanoparticles aiming to achieve bifunctional fluorescent nanostructures have been developed. The first strategy was based on the synthesis of the coordination polymers structured as nanoparticles by coordination of Co ions to two different catechol ligands containing free functional chemical groups (dopamine and 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde), and a bis(imidazole)-based ligand (1,4-bis(imidazole-1-ylmethyl)benzene, bix).
