Some general properties of the static solutions of Schiff's equatiou arc derived in Section 1 from the structure of the non-linear equation and the behavior of the source distribution. Section 2 is devoted to the proof of the existence of the solution, and to a derivation of the many-body forces implied in the classical scalar theory of Schiff potentials.
