Lozano Cutanda, Blanca (CUNEF Universidad)
In this study that I dedicate to Manuel Ballbé Mallol, whose wornderful friend-ship remains indelible in my memory, I carry out a summary expositicon of the conclusions of the IPCC scientists and of the main legal measures that are being adopted to fight climate change at the international and European level.

Climate change induces changes in plant communities according to species' climatic requirements. These changes can be assessed by community climatic disequilibrium (CD), which corresponds to the difference between the climate inferred from the climatic requirements of the species in a community (community-inferred climate, CIC) and the local observed climate. Global greening, characterized by an increase in leaf area index (LAI), implies an increase in foliar carbon (C). Whether this increase in foliar C under climate change is due to higher photosynthesis or to higher allocation of C to leaves remains unknown. [...]

Global change has accelerated local species extinctions and colonizations, often resulting in losses and gains of evolutionary lineages with unique features. Do these losses and gains occur randomly across the phylogeny? We quantified: temporal changes in plant phylogenetic diversity (PD); and the phylogenetic relatedness (PR) of lost and gained species in 2672 semi-permanent vegetation plots in European temperate forest understories resurveyed over an average period of 40 yr.
