The Ducal Palace of the House of Borgia and the Royal Monastery of Santa Clara in Gandia were two different worlds, but they were linked by a two-way path. They needed each other and both transcended the narrow limits of a middle-sized "villa" in the periphery of the Catholic Monarchy; the Borgias were fundamental actors in the Europe of their time and the Monastery was the epicenter of the "Colettine Reform" in the Iberian Peninsula that advocated the (impossible) return to the original ideal of Franciscan poverty of Sainte Clare's Rule.
