Electrochemical molecular recognition is a fast expanding research area at the interface of electrochemistry and supramolecular chemistry. Two strategies have been applied in order to detect electrochemically host-guest complex formation; extraction of a charged guest into a membrane and detection of the resultant membrane potential (ISE's, CHEMFET's), or study of the electrochemical disturbances induced to the receiver (electrochemical redox-receptors) by the substrate.
